Coming on deck, we’re coming on strong,
Close to the Edge, we’re moving along,
400yrs of Blood, sweat and tears, so confused we forget how we get here,
I will stand and testify, I will begin and tell you no lie.
The story starts in a far away land, my native home blue water and red sand,
my people were sold for their land and their gold,
many of them perish in the middle cone,
creating wealth for Lisbon and Rome sold on the dock for my denture and stock.
Branding our skins as cattle and horse,
I had to riot and fight them of course,
as black is a beast they called me his son,
down on the plantation they gave no reason,
for the inhuman treatment we endure,
too many souls burn in the cotton fern..
Escaping in droves to north city ghettos,
we escape the south but not the sorrow,
we head up north and hope they wouldn’t run
with their dogs on my tail till the morning dawn,
Coming on deck, we’re coming on strong,
Close to the Edge, we’re moving along,
They reengineered slavery in a different tone,
control the laws and keep me begging for more,
no talks of education or reparation, only murder,
drug and capitulation, our memory hits and my vision is clear,
to be myself at last free as a bird, what needs to be done is give some,
mark History for every black man and woman,
let us tell the true story of a people that rose out of prophecy,
the north star shines as a guiding light,
salute the return of my Glory Might.
